Clark PreK–8 Principal Amanda Rodriguez Named 2026 Ohio Principal of the Year

The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA) selected Amanda Rodriguez, principal of Clark PreK–8 School, as the 2026 Ohio Principal of the Year.

“This recognition means a great deal to me because it represents the shared work behind it,” Rodriguez said. “I don’t do this work alone. It reflects the dedication of our staff, the engagement of our students, and the commitment of our families. It shows what we can accomplish together when we work toward common goals for children.”

OAESA selected Rodriguez following a rigorous statewide process that included an extensive application, a site visit with observations, and interviews with staff, parents, colleagues, and community partners.

“Amanda Rodriguez exemplifies strong instructional leadership and a deep commitment to students, families, and community,” said Dr. Becky Hornberger, executive director of OAESA. “Her leadership reflects the values and impact this award was created to honor.”

CMSD CEO Dr. Warren Morgan said Rodriguez’s selection reflects years of consistent, student‑centered leadership.

“Amanda Rodriguez leads with purpose, discipline, and an unwavering belief in what students can achieve,” Morgan said. “Her work ethic shows up every day—in the culture she has built at Clark, the expectations she sets for herself and others, and the steady leadership she brings to our district. This honor is well deserved and a proud moment for CMSD.”

Rodriguez has served CMSD for nearly 27 years, including 22 years as an administrator and 20 years as principal of Clark PreK–8 School. She has also mentored new administrators for more than 12 years, supporting leadership development across the district.

A graduate of Cleveland State University, Rodriguez holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and bilingual education, and an educational specialist degree in administration. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, she began her career in CMSD as a science and English language arts teacher for grades four through six.

“My favorite part of being a principal is working in a school where students and staff are doing amazing work to support growth, both academically and socially,” Rodriguez said. “Seeing the community trust and embrace our school is incredibly powerful.”

The Ohio Principal of the Year award recognizes active principals who lead strong academic programs, address students' social and emotional needs, and maintain established partnerships with families and community organizations.

Principal Rodriguez said the honor reflects years of collective effort at Clark PreK–8.

“It’s the pride of watching growth happen through strong relationships, teamwork, and a shared commitment to every student’s success,” she said.

Rodriguez will be formally recognized on June 15, 2026, during the OAESA Professional Conference and Tradeshow in Columbus.
